Casa Paros: Mediterranean Soul Meets Baja California Charm

Aspire Metro on Casa Paros — and what it took to furnish

Aspire Metro featured Casa Paros in a piece by Kelly Walters, published 16 July 2025, under the theme of a home that evokes lived experience rather than structure. The house blends Greek island minimalism with the Baja California landscape: white-washed surfaces, black metal windows, thermal walls and a palapa-covered terrace, drawn from the architecture of Paros and reworked for the peninsula.

The design is Hillary Kent’s, and Walters’ piece is about that — what she calls a narrative where sensory experience precedes function. Mercantil’s role on Casa Paros was purchasing.

Which is the part the coverage does not cover, and it is the harder half. The owners’ brief was that the entire villa be furnished without importing a single piece — everything made in Baja California Sur. That turns a preference into a specification: it decides which workshops can take the work, which timbers and fibres exist in the quantities a whole house needs, and how long each run takes.

Pieces made in Baja are also made for Baja. Timber that has lived in this humidity behaves predictably in it, and when something needs attention years later the workshop that built it is an hour away rather than an ocean away.
