Casa Blanca Sur was built in 2001 as a retreat hotel on one of Baja’s best surf breaks at Cerritos, then sat unused on the beach for four years. Bringing it back took a full gut renovation. Interior design is by

Eleven guest suites needed re-equipping to a standard the building had never held, and the works added rooms that did not previously exist: a courtyard, a rooftop yoga deck, two chef’s kitchens, and a pool terrace sized to seat thirty on the sand.Renovation procurement is harder than new-build procurement, and a beachfront building that has stood empty for four years is harder still. Existing dimensions are whatever they turn out to be once you open the walls, so schedules cannot be locked early, and eleven guest rooms have to be furnished to a consistent standard while the building keeps revealing itself. Everything also has to reach a Cerritos beach site and then survive it.The result works as a retreat away from Cabo — private weddings, events and small groups.See our
