Four Seasons published a piece on the design of its resort and residences at Cabo del Sol, on the Golden Corridor of the Baja Peninsula. It credits architect Robert C. Glazier with interiors by EDG and Meyer Davis, and describes an approach that reads the area’s own qualities — the ocean, the light, the breezes — through organic colour, texture, material and form, with Mexican heritage carried into a contemporary resort.

The part worth adding to the published account is where the material came from. Making a Baja resort feel connected to mainland Mexican craft is a sourcing problem before it is a design one, and it was answered on the road — buying trips through Oaxaca, Michoacán, Guadalajara and Tonalá, collecting one-of-a-kind pieces rather than repeating a single specification across four restaurants, a rooftop, an art gallery, a retail space, the adventure centre and two pool areas.
That is a deliberately inefficient way to furnish a resort, and it is the reason the spaces do not feel identical to one another. The project went on to win the Gold Key Award for Best Resort.
