We don’t buy from catalogs. We work with the people who make things — the carpenters, weavers, metalworkers, and small factories across Mexico and Latin America who’ve spent generations building what mass production can’t. That choice is our starting point for everything we call responsibility.
We source from makers, not middlemen
Every piece we procure has a name attached to it — a workshop, a family, a region. Cutting out the middlemen isn’t a marketing line; it’s how we keep production honest, traceable, and accountable to the people actually doing the work. When you know who made something, you can’t look away from how it was made.
We build economies, not just furniture
Luxury hospitality and branded residential projects generate real volume. We direct that volume toward independent ateliers and regional manufacturers instead of consolidating it into a handful of overseas factories. Every commission placed with a Mexican or Latin American maker is capital that stays in the community that earned it.
We move goods deliberately
Cross-border logistics is where a lot of procurement firms stop paying attention. We don’t. Consolidated shipments, planned routing, and realistic timelines exist because rushed, fragmented freight is wasteful — in cost, in carbon, and in the quality of what arrives on site. Efficiency and responsibility aren’t in tension here; they’re the same discipline.
We hold our own supply chain to a standard
We vet the workshops and factories we work with directly — labor conditions, materials, capacity — because we’re not willing to put our name on something we haven’t verified ourselves. That standard isn’t outsourced to a certification body. It’s ours to enforce, project by project.
This is a practice, not a statement
We’re not publishing a sustainability report to check a box. As Mercantil grows, so does our obligation to the makers and regions we depend on — and we intend to keep raising the bar on how we source, build, and ship, not just say we do.
