Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, sits on an untouched stretch of the Sea of Cortez — dunes, white sand, and very little between the resort and the water. Mercantil was engaged as both designer and procurement partner for the property’s beach club, working alongside EDG Design of California for Ritz-Carlton and owner BPBIWM.This is the uncommon project where we hold both halves of the work. The design brief — cabanas, fire pits and a mixology station placed steps from the sand — and the sourcing, production and installation that turned it into furniture on the beach are both ours.An exposed beach setting narrows the specification before it begins. Salt air, direct sun and moving sand rule out finishes that would be unremarkable inland, and every piece has to survive sitting a few metres from the water. Building the scheme around environmentally conscious, locally made materials meant working through our network of 450+ artisans and workshops across México rather than defaulting to imported contract furniture — the harder route on coordination, and the one that keeps the work
